Why did you want to serve as an intern at Project Transformation?
I have always wanted to work with a program for kids and mentor. When I heard about Project Transformation and the mission of the program, it really caught my attention. I decided I wanted to share my passion with Project Transformation.
What is the most important lesson you have learned from working with children and youth?
One thing I will take with me that I’ve learned is to be flexible. If something changes, I’ve learned to adapt quickly and to take lead of the situation.
What is your favorite part of the Project Transformation experience?
Definitely building relationships. It’s not just about curriculum, but getting to know your kids. I enjoy finding out what makes them laugh and building that security so that they feel safe with me.
If you could tell one story from your experience at Project Transformation, what story would you tell?
One fifth grader at my site always has homework. She loves to do her homework and chat about how she is learning Spanish and pre-algebra. One day, she had no homework and was so eager to help any kid who did. While I was watching her, she really showed that she knew how to be a leader. She made the other kid laugh and really was able to help her. It really made me smile!
